"上善若水" (shàng shàn ruò shuǐ) is a phrase from the Dao De Jing, a classic text of Daoism, which means "The highest goodness is like water". This phrase expresses the Daoist concept of living in harmony with the natural world and emphasizes the importance of being flexible, adaptable, and unobtrusive.

In Daoist philosophy, water is seen as a symbol of the natural flow and harmony of the universe. It is soft, gentle, and yielding, but also powerful and persistent. The idea of "上善若水" is to emulate these qualities in one's own life, by cultivating a sense of humility, flexibility, and harmony.

In practical terms, this means that one should strive to be like water in their interactions with others and in their approach to life. This might involve being open-minded and adaptable, taking the path of least resistance, and being gentle and unobtrusive. By embodying the qualities of water, one can cultivate a sense of inner peace and harmony, and live in a way that is aligned with the natural world.
